Collecting Salt Cellars, Salters, and Sterling Silver Salt Spoons

Sterling Silver Salt Spoons are an elegant addition to any table and a popular collector’s item. Salt Spoons, popularized in 1810, were used when individual servings of salt (served in salt cellars) were needed during Victorian dinner parties. These miniature spoons, which usually measured no longer than two to three inches, were traditionally made from sterling silver and had highly ornate patterns.

Sterling Silver Salt Spoons are now a timeless and sought after addition to many collections. Salt spoons, both antique and reproduction, exemplify beauty and detail. Although traditionally cast in sterling silver they can also be found in glass and wood. Salt spoons typically have a small spoon bowl measuring no more than ½ to 3/4 inches and an ornate handle featuring flowers, swirl designs or geometric patterns. The range in patterns varies from very simple to extremely decorative.

Salt spoons are produced today – allowing you to find unique pieces to introduce to your fine tableware collection. It is a simple addition to your table that adds an elegant touch during any occasion. Be sure to follow a few simple steps when selecting your salt spoons. First, use sterling silver spoons for all your place settings. Second, make sure to replace salt and pepper shakers with salt cellars for each setting at your table. You can find salt cellars and dinnerware to tie the pattern of your salt spoons into table. By using sterling silver for all your salt spoons you can use different patterns and designs – you need not use the same spoon for every place setting.

Sterling Silver salt spoons are readily available online as well as in many catalogs. Search for sterling silver construction and be sure to ask questions. When you start to collect sterling silver salt spoons you can be sure that different shapes and combinations will work together nicely. These sterling silver salt spoons can be found online through LookInTheAttic & Company and they also offer free assistance and help.

Sex and the Chief Tasting Spoon

Sex and the Chief Tasting Spoon

by Don Ladanyi, BSE, JD

Now I attention (Sex sells you know), it is not "do" sex if you have a tasting spoon of a leader, but rather to "feel like you're having sex when you use a spoon to taste the chef's GOOD!

What I mean? Have you seen Rachael Ray "orgasmicly roll her eyes when she tasted something really good? That's what I'm talking to taste food about … large, as the leader for all the ingredients and seasonings to their appropriate level of perfection desired taste!

And how we do it, as Masters Culinary go about getting the absolute perfect balance between taste divine perfection? A solution Simple: We taste our creations from time to time as we move along the cooking process and set the various ingredients accordingly. Sounds Easy, is not it? Not if we introduce other, unrelated tastes perfectly balanced in the mix, such as "taste" a metal, wood or even a spoon "plastic" tasting.

Did you know that even a metal spoon reacts with nutrients and ions receptive papillae in three ways to deliver the "bad" taste? (1) It is the inherent metallic taste the metal spoon himself. (2) The metal of the spoon, it creates a taste detectable electric current when placed, even momentarily, in your mouth. Not a very good experience true taste. (3) Acidic foods (like fruits, meats, dairy products, wines, etc.) tend to react with the metal physics by getting rid of foreign ions that our taste buds can easily detect and find in bad taste and confusion.

Plastic spoons can avoid the effects (2) and (3), as shown above, but the plastic still generates chemicals detectable taste like formaldehyde, and plasticizers. spoons of the old school tasting drink a lot worse since they can easily keep tastes and smells of prior tasting flavors in the wood grain, not to mention the additional taste of the oils used to keep the wood from splitting.

So what do we do? Use your fingers? Not too sanitary and convenient, especially with a hot soup or sauce. Well, let's define the problem first and then look closely to a solution of innovative products.

THE PROBLEM: We want reveal all the natural flavors, both strong and subtle detail in their correct proportions INTENDED. Period! Or in other words, we want to feel (taste and smell) the most absolutely pure taste of our drinks with no inherent foreign wood, metal or plastic taste or reactions and taste sensations. That is, we just want to authenticate the integrity of our creation for all to enjoy.

THE SOLUTION: As a developer of new products since 1962 and a member of the original team of the heart defibrillator Portable First, I recently developed and patented a revolutionary product called "TruFlavorWare ™."
